Our VanLife Origin Story:

We are an accountant and financial planner (read: NO construction, electrical, or mechanical experience).

In December 2018, we decided that we’d been working and saving, saving and working, a.k.a. “the rat race,” for enough. We wanted to take a break, to re-think our way of life, and to slow travel for one year with our dog, Willie.

We thought that living in a vehicle, traveling in our own DIY home, sounded more fun than the traditional car + hotel circuit. (I confess I didn’t even know that “vanlife” was a thing at the time!)

So, within the first five months of 2019, I left my job and my husband went contractor status. We sold our single-family home in San Diego, purchased a used Ford Transit high roof van, and converted it with our own hands to a tiny home on wheels. Then we hit the road!

I tell you this because we are quite “normal” people. We are not hippies with far-out ideas, or lifelong backpacking nomads, or even adventurous thrill-seekers. We were told to reach certain milestones – that is, until we paused to reassess the finish line.

We’re just your everyday couple who did our due diligence, put in the elbow grease, and made the leap to vanlife. And now we’re here to help you make the leap, too!
